At Dongarmatha, we are Observing National Moth week between 23 to 31 July 2022. It’s a world wife moth observation week.
Why do we need moths! Being nocturnal, Moths assist pollination more than any other insects in the night flowering plants. Moths produce silk. They are food for many species of birds.
Experts say, there are 10 times more species of Moths than butterflies. An estimated 2 lakh species of moths in the world gives you lot of scope for research. Moths are one of the most successful species to evolve on earth. Programmes like This help identify new species through common citizen involvement, increasing awareness for nature conservation.
Dongarmatha was in top 3 in India in terms of no. of moth species observed during National Moth Week 2020.
We have proudly identified and registered more than 146 species of Moths (Moths come in same Order Lepidoptera as Butterflies). All because of Native plants conservation and plantation since last 12 years.

Dongarmatha as the name suggests is on top of the hill, in fact on one of the highest peaks in Parshuram ghat. It’s an effort to conserve nature & live a sustainable life by owner Mangesh Govekar with friends Abhi Gadre & Chaitanya Kalve. For many people in big cities there’s no choice than getting spinned with the pace of the hectic life. Deadlines, urgency, stress, traffic jams, pollution, health hazards can’t be avoided if one wishes to stay in the city. We have instinctively chosen this path of staying in nature & have a healthy, peaceful life at natural pace, to try and find the missing thing in life.

Recently visited Chiplun for some work and stay at Dongarmatha Eco resort. The unique location, the view from the rooms are splendid and treat for nature lovers. We were able to witness many birds from our room balcony as well as running clouds all the time. The hospitality of the owners and staff was commendable. The food was homely and delicious. The overall room decor and hygiene was perfect. Certainly will recommend to friends, nature lovers and photographers.
